DOOR POLICY:
CLOSET is a night for homosexuals and those who love them. Like tennis, we're full of lesbians - and gay men and queer people of all persuasions. We welcome all the colours of the rainbow and their friends. We have a zero tolerance policy towards antisocial behaviour, harassment, homophobia, transphobia.

POSTER GIRL: Margaret Court
Margaret Court AO MBE is a retired Australian tennis player and former world No. 1. In tennis, she amassed more major titles than any other player in history, and she has a Melbourne tennis stadium named in her honour. In more recent years, Ms Court has become a Christian minister in Perth, WA, where she is an outspoken critic of same sex marriage and LGBT rights. In recent weeks, Court wrote a letter to the editor of the West Australian calling for a boycott of Qantas. She also told a radio station that tennis was 'full of lesbians' who predatorily 'took young ones into parties,' and compared the efforts to teach children about gender fluidity to the methods of Nazism and communism.

LEAPS & BOUNDS MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS: BV | friendships | HABITS

Two of Melbourne’s currently most revered electro duos team up for a double header of lights and visuals.

friendships, featuring Nic Brown and Misha Grace have an air of invincibility about them. Immortality even. An audio/visual 2 piece from Melbourne who play chaotic future sounds, storming drum'n'bass, post-Warp slammers and searing, ear-shearing techno. Their highly acclaimed album from last year “Nullarbor 1988-1989”, made just about everyone’s best album lists making friendships are one of Melbourne’s biggest acts to watch out for.

HABITS are unmistakeable. Their throbbing live shows have drawn eager and growing crowds, having built a reputation for their pulsing energy and emotional catharsis. Yet mystifyingly, they remain one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets. Ugly Cry, their new EP, is finally turning on the rest of the world, scoring support from community radio and the music press. Tone Deaf called it “one of 2016’s most defining Aussie EP releases” and i-D described their live show as “like going to a yoga class on MDMA: sweaty, invigorating and really, really fun.” HABITS won’t remain a secret much longer.

Exciting by themselves but together on the same bill – potent.

Au Dré

Au Dré are gracing the Night Cat, Saturday 24th June!

Au Dré is a collaboration between Producer/Keyboardist extraordinaire JamBau (James Bowers) and Vocalist/Trumpeter Audrey Powne. The two will be familiar to Melbourne music lovers as resident members of Sex On Toast, The Do Yo Thangs, True Live, Clever Austin, The Vaudeville Smash and many more.

The pair was bought together over a shared love of maximalist electronic music by the likes of Pomrad, Lone and Hudson Mohawke and an equally affectionate passion for late 70‘s/early 80’s Disco/Dance music from Herbie Hancock and Chaka Kahn and lesser known gems like Donald Blackman and Cameo.

In an attempt to fuse together these two infatuations Au Dré deliver the perfect combination of a contemporary “banger” with the sophistication and energy of old school funk and R’n’B.

Paradise presents: GAIKA (UK / WARP RECORDS)

Paradise is excited to present UK vocalist and producer GAIKA at The Night Cat on Saturday June 10th. The Warp Records signee will tour nationally in June, supported in Melbourne by cult Australian act friendships, avant hip hop duo Kandere and FBi radio's Tommy Codling.

Born out of his travels through the many global currents of contemporary London, GAIKA’s music is dark yet melodic, experimental yet catchy. While drawing strongly from his Brixton upbringing and his Jamaican and Grenadian heritage, GAIKA’s sound is ultimately expansive, seamlessly weaving musical motifs, vocal flows and slangs of UK, US and Caribbean music.

GAIKA is as uncompromising in his politics as his sonics, intent on expanding and exploding the ideas of what contemporary black British music is. From his debut mixtape Machine in 2015 all the way to his Warp Records release Spaghetto, GAIKA is channeling the unique synthesis of the UK’s musical make-up, firmly at the forefront of a new London.

Harvey Sutherland and Bermuda

Velour-funk technicians Harvey Sutherland and Bermuda bring their acclaimed live show around Australia and New Zealand in support of a new EP “Expectations”. The second release for Sutherland’s own Clarity Recordings brings his Bermuda project into sharp focus - six tracks spanning Harvey’s influences from the West Coast to West End Records.

The new EP comes after last year’s double-A side “Priestess/Bravado”, which received critical praise from The Guardian and Resident Advisor and support from disco luminaries The Black Madonna, Red Greg and Prins Thomas.

Sharing the name of his breakout 12”, Bermuda is Harvey Sutherland’s live band - a futurist outfit comprising Melbourne musicians Graeme Pogson (drums) and Tamil Rogeon (electric strings). The trio interpret Sutherland’s productions with flair and relentless consistency, bringing a unique energy to the club space.

Special Guests and Supports to be announced.
