TRANSCONTINENTAL VIBRATIONS @ THE NIGHT CAT
DR HERNANDEZ + CUMBIA COSMONAUTS + JALI BUBA KUYATEH
Dr Hernandez - a brand new outfit from some all-star specialists!
After many years on the road with the likes of Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Texicali Rose, The Ska Vendors, The Pachuco Playboys, The Spaghetti Western Orchestra, The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, Skazz and Batacuda, five Melbourne musicians bring together their disparate musical tastes and a shared passion for Caribbean-influenced rhythms, to lay down some relaxed and rootsy dance grooves.
Dr Hernandez prescribes an exotic tonic of electro cumbia, sweet reggae, old school ska and a shot of soulful boogaloo.
CUMBIA COSMONAUTS (DJ set)
Tropical space phenomenon the Cumbia Cosmonauts blast cumbia into the future and beyond. Expect a science fiction soundtrack lost in the Amazon jungle; tropical vibes in orbit; and ultimately an infectious shuffle-beat anyone can dance to. The Cumbia Cosmonauts are producers Saca La Mois DJ!! and Soup, known for their super heavy live show featuring guest percussionist El Mas and Phaic VJ, making each live performance a unique visual and sonic adventure featuring lasers, synthesizers, space-surf guitar, silver jumpsuits and Afro-Colombian rhythms.
JALI BUBA KUYATEH
Jali has appeared at festivals around Australia including WOMADelaide, The Melbourne International Festival, Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals, to name a few. Jali Buba Kuyateh has the ability to captivate an audience with a band or on his own. He sings like Mory Kante and plays kora like Toumani Diabate. He's a brilliant entertainer and to watch him play as he gets lost in his music is an absolute delight. He not only plays and sings, but he dances while he plays! He has many fans right throughout Senegal, Gambia, and now Australia, and he is recognised and greeted everywhere he goes by people in the street. He's Senegambia's, best kept secret, now residing in Australia!
