Beasts of No Nation: A Tribute to Fela Kuti - SOLD OUT!

PBS 106.7FM Melbourne and Multicultural Arts Victoria are proud to announce the return of Beasts of No Nation – a special event paying tribute to Fela Kuti featuring The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra plus special guests at The Night Cat on Saturday September 9.

Presented by Stani Goma of PBS show Flight 1067 to Africa, Beasts of No Nation is dedicated to afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti – one of the most celebrated and audacious artists of the 20th century, who continuously put his life on the line for his music and what he believed in.

The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra are a seventeen-piece orchestra comprising some of Melbourne’s finest musicians and powerful MCs, whose tribal rhythms and West African grooves will bring contemporary African funk to the Night Cat dancefloor while always remaining faithful to the message of afrobeat.

Special guests vocalists and MCs include:
Sampa The Great
Kylie Auldist
Emma Donovan
Franḉoise D’Argent
Candy Borquaye
Gbade Okunade and;
Lemi Ghariokwu (direct from Lagos)

Lemi Ghariokwu – the visionary behind dozens of Fela Kuti’s original cover art between 1974 and 1993 – will be MCing the night, bringing a personal touch to this special event.

Beasts of No Nation is named after Fela Kuti’s final studio album, and serves as a poignant reminder that 20 years after the musician’s death, Fela’s music is as powerful and relevant as ever.

This event is part of a wider month-long tribute to Fela’s legacy lovingly curated by PBS presenter Stani Goma. More information available on request.
